Large interest in floating offshore wind demo at DHI HQ

More than 100 guests took part in the live demo of a floating offshore wind turbine at DHI HQ

DHI opened our doors to the offshore wave basin for all interested to witness the tests of the TetraSpar floating foundation concept together with DTU Wind Energy and Stiesdal Offshore Technology A/S. The event took place on 20 June 2017 at DHI HQ and more than 100 curious visitors visited the facility to see the latest developments in floating wind being put to the test.

The 1:60 scale model tests are carried out using DTU’s 10MW scale model pitch-controlled wind turbine, and two floater configurations are considered. The floating wind turbine is subjected to wind and wave forcing for a number of operational and survival conditions.

Henrik Stiesdal is a renowned Danish inventor and former Chief Technology Officer at Siemens Wind Power who has worked with wind energy technologies since the later 1970s. The visitors saw his new floating foundation concept being tested in both waves and wind, and had the chance to discuss about offshore floating wind with Stiesdal as well as the team from DTU Wind Energy and DHI.
