Our expert from DHI Italy presenting a case story on invitation by Copernicus European Service

Andrea Pedroncini, head of marine division of DHI Italy, has been invited by the Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) to present a case story during the CMEMS Regional User and Training Workshop dedicated to the Mediterranean Sea held in December last year.

CMEMS is the Copernicus European Service programme dedicated to the marine environment. Funded by the European Union through the European Commission, it has been designed to respond to issues emerging in the environmental, business and scientific sectors.  Using information from both satellite and in situ observations, it provides state-of-the-art analyses and forecasts daily, which offers an unprecedented capability to observe, understand and anticipate marine environment events.

DHI’s presentation concerns a finalised modelling application developed in the La Spezia Port that is able to study the fine sediments dispersion during dredging operations inside the Port. The circulation in the Spezia Gulf has been modelled using MIKE Powered by DHI’s MIKE 3 HD FM model. The boundary conditions are taken from the Ligurian Sea model, an operational circulation model used by ARPA Liguria, the regional agency for environmental protection for Liguria, and implemented by DHI.

The video of the case story presentation on Copernicus Marine Services and port management applications has recently been uploaded at the Copernicus European Service web page.
